My
Thanksgiving Room
Thanksgiving
will be celebrated November 23, 2006
"Oh
give thanks to the Lord, call upon His Name;
Make
known His deeds among the peoples.
Sing
to Him, sing praises to Him;
Speak
of all His wonders."
~1
Chronicles 16:8,9~

Thanksgiving
is a wonderful time to celebrate all of the Lord's goodness
in
our lives. Often, we forget how awesome He truly is and
how
much He loves us.
Thanksgiving
for me this year (2004) has a whole new meaning. I have had
a
year that has taught me much about the Lord I serve and love. His
sovereign
plan for my life has opened my eyes to see His many blessings.
It
has definitely been a year to learn more about Him and to know Him
in
a deeper way than I have ever before. For that I am very grateful.
"In
every thing give thanks: for this is the will
of
God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
~1
Thessalonians 5:18~

My
prayer for you this Thanksgiving is that you will know the blessings
the
Lord has lavished on you. This even means the trials and suffering you
have
endured. God loves you dearly and wants you know Him intimately.
Don't
know him? Click on the fruit below to learn how you can. He is
waiting
for you with open arms.

Do you
need some ideas to help you celebrate Thanksgiving?
Let
me share some that I have come across. Let Thanksgiving be
a
time to show others how much God loves them.
1. For each family member, make thank you cards. Not anything big or fancy.
A simple card that tells them why you are thankful for them. Give
it to them
on Thanksgiving Day or mail it early so they get it before Thanksgiving
Day.
2. If you enjoy cooking or baking, take a special food item to someone
who
will be alone for Thanksgiving Day. Make an effort to also spend some time
with them as well. Let them know they are appreciated.
3. Visit anyone who might be in the hospital during Thanksgiving. It can
be a
a family member, a friend, or whomever.
4. Visit a nursing home or shelter.
5. Purchase a "Share" meal for a family who needs it. You can find the
nearest
Share program to you by visiting their site.
6. Make Thanksgiving bags for the homeless people you see standing on the
corners
of the streets. Instead of money, give them the blessing of a good meal
and
be sure to include the gospel. (more on this idea below)
7. Give to the local charities that might be collecting coats, clothes,
& toys for
those who need them.
8. Get active in your church this holiday season. Help in areas you sparkle
in.
9. Reach out to a widowed neighbor. Invite them over for dessert or take
it to
them.
10. Have a grateful heart in all things. Make a point to sit down and write
down all
the things you are thankful for. Keep this list posted where you can see
it daily.
Don't be surprised if you add something new each day to your list. You
will!
Sharing
Jesus With A Meal
Our
family loves to share Jesus with a meal. What better way to share
Jesus
than over a meal. One of our ministries as a family is feeding
those
who need a good meal. We make paper bag meals to give to the
homeless
people we see standing at intersections. Usually, they are
asking
for money but we give them food and the Word of God instead.
How
do we do this? We take regular lunch size paper bags and feel
them
with food items that are non-perishable. It will include things
like:
vienna sausages, tuna, canned chicken, tiny packages of mayonnaise,
saltine
crackers, canned beans, cookies, etc. You can search your
supermarket
for other ideas. We can usually make these bags and keep
them
in the car for a week or so since nothing will spoil. We do keep in
mind
the temperature outside as we plan ahead.
If
we know we will be able to pass out a meal bag while we are out
and
about a particular day, we will make peanut butter & jelly sandwiches
or
add fruit. And the best part of all is we always add a book that
shares
the gospel with them. Not only do they need physical food to
live,
they need spiritual food for life. And be creative: decorate the
bags
and make them inviting. May you be encouarged to reach out to
others
for God's glory.

Proclamation
of Thanksgiving
Following
is the 1863 Lincoln Presidential Proclamation - celebrated shortly
after
Lincoln committed his life to Christ and celebrated while America was
still
in the midst of its Civil War. It was this proclamation which eventually
led to
the
establishment of our national Thanksgiving holiday.
Proclamation
Of Thanksgiving
"O
give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
For
his lovingkindness is everlasting."
