Sadie's "Taking Care of Me" Room

Welcome to my "Taking Care of Me" room!
As I was thinking about how to design this room, I knew I wanted it to be a room where us
women can learn about how to pamper ourselves. So much we are often taking care of others
that we tend to put ourselves on the backburner. I know that I have had to learn how to take
care of me so I can be better equipped to take care of others in my life. That's physically, mentally
and, especially, spiritually equipped! I am praying as I put these pages together and am trusting God's
leading to what He would have me share with you. It is my prayer that you will be encouraged to
take care of you in a way that would bring glory to God and make you stronger to face each
day's tasks and situations as they present themselves. So, let's get started!!!

You & Your Heart

This first section is all about your heart and your Christian faith. I believe this is
the most important part of being who you are. It is also the most beneficial part
of being you. As a Christian, your faith should direct what you do and what you
say. So, with that in mind, you need to keep that Christian heart healthy and
on the right track. How do you do it? Read the Bible, memorize scripture, attend
church and pray. So, let's get into each of these areas a little more deeply.

Reading God's Word

The Bible is the BEST book you will ever read!! I say that with much confidence
because I believe it to be true. In this book, you learn in great detail about an
awesome God who loves you very much. So much that He sent His one and only
Son to die on the cross for the payment of your sins. And three days later He
rose so that you might know eternal life in Heaven. Jesus Christ did this for you!
This is God's gift of salvation to those who choose to accept it.

I, also, want to help you spend more time reading God's Word. Here are some
ideas to encourage this important "feeding" of the heart and soul daily.

Read your Bible first thing in the morning. Or rise 15 minutes earlier
and spend time reading when the house is still asleep.
Set aside 15 minutes in the afternoon to read. Maybe while the little
ones are napping or before the kids get home from school.
Put together a quiet time bag. Your bible, a pen, and small notebook.
When waiting in the doctor's office or somewhere else, read!
Read before you close your eyes at night. Put everyone to bed and as
the house settles for the night, make time to read for 15 minutes.
Set aside Bible reading time with the family every evening. Maybe at
the dinner table after everyone is done and just sitting and chatting.
Weather permitting, take a walk to a park, find a tree or bench and
enjoy reading God's Word.

However works best for you, make sure that daily you find time to
read the Bible. It is the best "food" you can give yourself all day.

Have you read the entire Bible yet? Well, believe it can be done!
Here are sites that offer different Bible reading plans for you
to embark on. Fine one that works for you and get going!
Remember you don't have to wait until January 1st to begin!
Just begin today and ask the Lord for discipline in sticking
with it. He is faithful!

Memorizing God's Word

Memorizing God's word is very important to your heart and your faith.
By hiding God's Word in your heart, you will always be better equipped
to make choices that are pleasing to God. And God is faithful to bring
to mind those scriptures you memorize when you most need them. I find
that memorizing scripture also helps in my prayer life. I love praying
God's Word back to Him. So, here are some suggestions to help you
memorize God's Word.

Try keeping a scripture notebook. Write down the scripture you are
trying to memorize and look at it often throughout the day.
Write the scriture verse on an index card and tape it up where you
can see it often, reading each time aloud. Put it in several places.
Try memorizing a chapter instead. It usually reads as a story and
the flow of it will help you memorize it quickly.
Purchase scripture CDs where you memorize the Word to music. This
is a great way to get your kids involved, too.
Memorize word by word. Break down the scripture and say each
word aloud, adding a new word as you get one memorize.
Lastly, get yourself a memorizing buddy. Someone to keep you
accountable.

After you've memorize your scripture, find someone to recite it to. This
is very important because it guarantees you know it. I think its also a good
thing if you can explain why you memorized that scripture. Why did the Lord
lay that particular scripture on your heart to keep there?

Prayer

Prayer is so needed and commanded for the Christian women. I know I
myself rely much on my conversations with the Father. I praise Him, I
repent of my sins, I thank Him, I lay requests at His feet and I yield
to Him. Prayer gets me through each and every day. Since I cannot know
what my day will hold each morning when I wake, I have to cover it in
prayer. When a family member is far from me, I must cloth them in
prayer. When a difficult situation arises, I will pray about it until I am
through it. So, I encourage you to PRAY!!! Here are some ideas on prayer:

Do a word study on prayer/pray/praying.
Read Matthew and what Jesus says about praying.
Start your morning off with prayer. Begin your day in
His presence.
Get yourself a prayer partner. Someone who will respect
your confidentiality and is a prayer warrior.
Make yourself a prayer journal. I have a prayer binder
that I put all my prayers in. I will share more about
this with you below.

 Bible Study Help

Bible study is so important in the Christian life. It means not only
reading the Word but actually studying it. I have a huge thick, black
book that started off as my prayer journal and is now my Bible study
book/prayer journal. I write down what I read and learn while in
God's Word. It is my personal written relationship with the Lord I
serve. Here are some tools to help you begin your own Bible study:

Set a time every day to read the Bible!! Don't get lazy
in this. Like eating, this is very important to your life.

Have a notebook handy each time. I bought a book bag on
clearance and keep a Bible and note pad in there for "on
the go" reading. I usually transfer what I learn into
my big black notebook to keep it altogether.

Pick a designated place in your home to meet with God.
I do it in my bed sitting up or at the kitchen table.
Sometimes I find time in the red chair in my house
that I like so much.

Get your hands on a concordance. Strong's Concordance
is a great one to have in your home. I have used mine
often to research scripture verses.

Have a Greek and Hebrew dictionary handy. They help
in deeper definition of Bible words. A must!!!

I have different Bible versions as well. In my library, I
have a KJV, NKJV, NASB, ESV and NIV version handy.
I believe these are the best ones around. Word of
caution: be careful with more loosely translated versions.

Join a Bible study at your church. Be faithful to attending
the sessions and doing the homework, if any.

PRAY!!!! Pray for wisdom and God's direction as you study.
Write down what He reveals to you. Praise Him for
leading your heart and giving you a better understanding
of who He is.

You & Your Body

Now, let's discuss the physical part of taking care of you! Let me share,
first, that I am in no way an expert on physical health. I am simply a
mom who desired to be healthier and followed through by doing research
on how to accomplish that. "Diets", from my experience, are so temporary!
A life change to being healthier is more about understanding what you put into
your body as well as knowing how to strengthen your body through exercise.
I have learned how to lose weight and maintain it through eating healthier
and keeping up a regular exercise routine. It is my heart to help you understand
what is better for you and how to go about accomplishing a healthier you!
All things shared are what I have researched and found works for me. Please
read what I have and find what works for you. Make sure you discuss all
food questions with a nutritionist and exercise concerns with your doctor
before embarking on any changes. Now let's get on with it!!!
