My Valentine's Room

Therefore thou shalt love the Lord thy God and keep
his charge, and his statutes, and his judgements,
and his commandments, always.
Deuteronomy 11:1

Welcome to my Valentine's Room!
I just enjoy the holiday of Valentine's and intend
to share with you all I can about the holiday as
well as the most important love of all we can
receive on this day: God's love.
So, have a candy heart or two and browse
around my room. Oh, and be sure to refresh
the page as I am always adding things.

St. Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th each year.
It is the holiday we use to show our love for others in an
outward expression. We exchange cards, give candy &
flowers, and give gifts as tokens of our love to one
another. Do you know that God gave us a special
token of his love and all we have to do is accept
it? Let me share this Gift with you. It is, by
far, the best gift you could be given on
St. Valentine's Day.

God's love for us.....................

For God so loved the world that he gave his one
and only Son, that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did
not send his Son in to the world to condemn
the world, but to save the world through him.

John 3:16, 17

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent
his one and only Son into the world that we might live
through him.

1 John 4:9

Have you accepted God's gift of love for you?

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed
in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

John 1: 12

What the Bible says about love...............

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not
easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with
the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always
hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Try inserting your name where the word
love is. Like so............

"Your name"  is patient, "Your name"  is kind.
"Your name" does not envy, "your name" does not boast, "your name" is not proud.
"Your name"  is not rude, "your name"  is not self seeking, "your name" is not
easily angered, "your name"  keeps no record of wrongs.
"Your name"  does not delight in evil but rejoices with
the truth. "Your name"  always protects, always trusts, always
hopes, always perseveres. "Your name"  never fails.

Let this be your prayer in loving others.
It's not asking too much of us to love
others as God does. Make it your daily
effort to love with your heart as described
in 1 Corinthians 13.

Let all you do be done in love.

Other verses from the Bible about love.......

A new command I give you: Love one another. As
I have loved you, so you must love one another.

John 13:34

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid
down his life for us.

1 John 3:16

But God demonstartes his own love for us in this: While
we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

God's word shares many verses about Love.
I encourage you to look them up and see for
yourself what true love is all about. If you

A Special Valentine For You

A Christian Marriage

I am married to a wonderful husband. We have a
beautiful marriage because we have chosen to
make God first in our marriage relationship. He is also
first in each of our lives. Marriage is a sacred relationship
to God. He expects us to honor those vows we make to our
spouses. Living a God filled marriage means loving your mate
as God does. You must choose to love your mate every day
and see them through God's eyes. On this Valentine's Day
make that commitment to do this for your husband/wife.
This is the best gift you could give them.

To accept less than God's desire for your marriage is sin.

Wives, submit to your husband as to the Lord
Ephesians 5:22

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church
and gave himself up for her.
Ephesians 5:25

Valentine Fun for Families

There are so many things you can do to make Valentine's
a memorable day. At our home, we have a party. Yep!
I decorate and serve delicious food. I purchase "little
somethings" for the kids and we spend the evening together.
That is the main point here: TOGETHER! Don't lose sight
of that when planning your celebration. I thought I
would share with you some of my ideas. They
are simple and fun.

1.I always start in my kitchen because that's where they (the kids) will
eat and hang for a while. So, I decorate with a valentine's table
cloth, sprinkle confetti, and put big red bows at each corner of the
table. From there, I put their plates, cups, and napkins, which are
valentine's decorated, at each of their seats. Then, I place the "little
somethings" I got each child on their plates. There is also a
centerpiece on the table and other decorations.

2. I decorate my house some, too. There's a valentine's wreath on my
door and then various decorations in the house. It doesn't have to
be elaborate, just whatever your heart desires. Most of my
decorations have been collected over the years.

3. The food is usually fun and simple to make. It has changed with each
year. I do know that this year I plan to make a special cake that will
be red & white. The recipe is found in Sadie's Kitchen under
Holiday Delights. Whatever you choose to make, make it fun!!

4. After they eat and open their gifts (the little somethings),we usually
play a game or two. That is always a hit here.We love to play games.
It doesn't have to be a board game either just something the kids
will have fun doing together and with you.

5. Doing a craft project together is a wonderful option in place of the
game idea or in addition to. Here are some craft projects you can
plan on doing together.

Valentines Day Wreaths

Cut out a bunch of assorted- sized smaller hearts from
red and pink construction plate. Take a paper plate and
cut out the middle. Glue the hearts all over the plate.
Make bows with red ribbon. Hang!

Valentine's Day Chain
Cut strips of red, pink, and white construction paper,
three to four inches long, and one half to one inch
wide. On each strip write a verse from the Bible about
love on it. (Memorize it and practice it.) Form a circle
with one strip and staple or glue the ends together.
Take the next strip and loop it through the first
circle, attaching the ends together.Continue on and
make a chain or chains as long as you desire.

Valentines Day Placemats
Your placemats can be any size as long as it is big
enough to fit a dinner plate on it. Generally, they
should be 12 x 16 but that's up to you. Anyhow, you
use white construction paper and decorate with stickers, rubber stamps, or old valentine cards. With the cards
you can make a collage. For older kids, you can have
them write a valentine message if they choose. After
it's done, cover with clear contact paper.

Chocolate!! I love chocolate!! Chocolate is one of
the most popular gifts on St. Valentine's Day.
I thought it would be fun to find out more
about this delightful treat.

Chocolate dates back to Aztec times, and it was used as a drink,
called xocoatl. The conquering Spanish returned home with
the chocolate (cho-co-LAH-tay) in 1528. A royal wedding
in 1615 brought the drink to France, where they called it
chocolat (sho-c-LAH). A true fact, as many see it, was that
it wasn't until it came to the U.S. that people begand spelling
and pronouncing it correctly. Ü

Chocolate is made from beans which grow inside fat, spindle
shaped pods. The beans and pulp are removed, fermented,
and then dried. They are then roasted and the shells removed.
The beans are ground under such pressure that they turn into a
liquid, which then solidifies. The mass is then sweetened
and flavored according to requirements. When buying chocolate,
look at the percentage of cocoa on the ingredients label. You will find
the more cocoa solids, the higher the price, but the fuller
the cocoa flavor.

In a nutshell!! But here are some other links about
chocolate that are very good reading. Dive in!

Love Is Extravagant
(Matthew 26: 6-10)

In February we celebrate what we call the month of love. Love has
many expressions and means different things to different people.
The Greek had different names for different kinds of love; eros
was the love of the sexes, fileos was filial love or love for relatives
and friends. Paul the Apostle used the word agape in
1 Corinthians 13 which is sacrificial love. True love is extravagant,
sacrificial. John 3:16 says: "For God so loved the world that he
gave his one and only Son, that who ever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life." Have you ever expressed extravagant
love toward another person, or has another person ever expressed
that kind of love to you? Jesus and his disciples were eating supper
in the house of a certain man called Simon. While they were eating
a woman came in and taking an alabaster jar of very expensive
perfume she poured it on Jesus' head. Jesus' disciples saw this act
as a wasteful one. Jesus saw it as an expression of extravagant love.
That woman responded with love and deep gratitude to Jesus grace
and forgiveness. How do we react to God's love? Love begins with
God. He gave us his Son, and through his Son He has forgiven us all
our sins and has promised us an everlasting life of peace and glory
in heaven. When was the last time you showed this kind of love
to God?

We love because he first loved us. If anyone says,
"I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar;
for he who does not love his brother whom he has
seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And
this commandment we have from him, that he
who loves God should love his brother also.
1 John 4:19-21

The story of Saint Valentine
Is a legend, it is true,
But legends are delightful
And very lovely, too.
And the legend of Saint Valentine
Imprisoned in a cell
Thinking of his little flock
He had always loved so well
And, wanting to reassure them
Of his friendship and his love,
He picked a bunch of violets
And sent them by a dove.
And on the violets' velvet leaves
He pierced these lines divine
That simply said, "I love you"
And "I'm your Valentine."
So through the years that followed
From that day unto this
Folks still send messages of love
And seal them with a kiss
Because a Saint in prison
Reached outside his bars one day
And picked a bunch of violets
And sent them out to say
That faith and love can triumph,
No matter where you are,
For faith and love are greater
Than the strongest prison bar.
