Welcome
to
Sadie's
Patterns page.
It
is here that I will share patterns that I design or
enjoy
doing. I don't know how often I will add to
this
page. I suppose it will be as God leads me to
find
time to. But for now I have a quilt jar pattern
and
a quilt pinwheel pattern for you to enjoy.
Both
are easy and fun to do!!
The
Jar Quilt Pattern
The Jar Pattern
1. Cut the following from black cotton fabric. this is the background of
the block.
A. 2 strips - 2 1/2" x 3"
B. 1 strip - 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"
C. 2 strips - 2" x 6 1/2"
D. 4 squares - 1 1/2" squared
2. In a narrow striped (or lid looking) fabric...this is the lid....cut
E. 1 strip - 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"
3. Cut the following from the fabric of that month's theme.
F. 1 rectangle - 6 1/2" x 5 1/2"
(Remember! Your jar is 6 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" wide)
NOTE: This pattern allows for very tight 1/4" seams. I have found that
giving
myself some "evening up" room helps in making sure the block
measures 8 1/2" squared when all is said and done. On the black
background fabric, pieces A, B, & C, I add about 1/4" in both length
and
width measurements before I cut. DO NOT do this to piece D, the little
squares. They need to stay 1 1/2". Pieces E & F remain the given
measurements as well. Also, the jar lid will go a little beyond the jar
"neck," like a real jar. Drawing of pattern is below.
The
Pinwheel Pattern
The Pinwheels Pattern
(as shared in Quick
Quilts magazine)
1. We are using muslin for the background fabric. From the
background fabric
cut the following:
2 - 5 3/8" squares (for one block)
2. For pinwheels (summer print fabric of choice), cut the following:
2 - 5 3/8" squares (for one block)
3. On wrong side of the two 5 3/8" muslin squares draw a diagonal
line. Then place
the muslin squares on each of the print squares, right sides together.
4. Sew 1/4" seam on each side of marked line. Cut apart on drawn
line. We will be
using 1/4" seams for the sewing of the block.
5. Press open to make pieced squares that will measure 5" squared.
Remember to
clip off the corner "tails".
6. Stitch together 4 matching pieced squares to make the Pinwheel
block.
Square up to 9 1/2" (unfinished).
*** Make sure your Pinwheel is going the same way every time. For this
swap, follow
the direction I have shown here. In other words, set up your Pinwheel block
the
way I have mine below. This will guarantee that all our blocks are tumbling
the
same direction.***
