Be
still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.
Psalm

Draw
near to God and he will draw near to you.

The National
Day of Prayer is May 3, 2007. Go to
the link to get more
information about this day of
recognition and what
to pray for.
I
ask that you keep our soldiers in prayer. Though we do not
know
what the future holds, it is still important that we lift up
our
troops. Visit Sadie's "Pray
For Our Troops" Page.
What Is Prayer?
My
thoughts on prayer...
Prayer
is a time of worship, thankfulness, repentence,
interceding,
requesting, and yielding. It is when we
come
before our Father and be in his presence. Jesus
shared
with us how to pray to our Father in Matthew 6:5-8 (ESV).
"And
when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they
love
to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street
corners,
that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you,
they
have received their reward. But when you pray,
go
into your room, shut the door and pray to the Father who
is
in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward
you.
And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases
as
the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard
for
their many words. Do not be like them, for your
Father
knows what you need before you ask him."
Jesus
tells us that prayer is personal between us and God.
We
are not to impress others with our prayers. We don't have
use
fancy words or phrases. We are to find a quiet place
and
go before our God in humble obedience. He already knows
what
you are there for before you utter a word. Prayer is
a
priviledge for the child of God. And our loving Father wants
to
hear from us and speak to us. So, find a quiet
place,
sit or kneel, and place yourself in His presence.
Do
not be anxious about anything, but in everything by
prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests
be
made known to God.
Philippians
4:6 (ESV)
Seek Him in
Prayer
Let
us find comfort
and
strength for each day
In
knowing that Christ
walked
this same earthly way.
So
whenever we're troubled
and
lost in despair
We
have but to seek Him
and
ask Him in prayer.
To
guide and direct us
and
help us to bear
Our
sickness and sorrow,
our
worry and care.

Prayer
is so important in the life of a Christian. God calls us
to
fellowship with Him daily. How wonderful that He desires to
talk
with us. So, in return I believe our prayer time with
God
should not be taken lightly. This is your time to recognize
who
He is in your life and appreciate that. During prayer,
we
should praise and thank Him, be repentance of our sins,
make
our requests known to him, and listen to Him. If prayer is
not
easy for you, I am sharing some simple "guidelines" to
help
your prayer life be more effective.
The
first one is using the word ACTS.
A = Adoration
C = Confession
T = Thanksgiving
S = Supplication
The
second one is using the word PRAY.
P = Praise
R = Repentance
A = Asking
Y = Yielding
These
are basic prayer "forms" you can use to help you have a more
effective
prayer life. They are great reminders of how to pray. When you
feel
comfortable with these, I suggest combining the two like so:
1.
Praise
and Adoration (recognizing who God is)
2.
Thanksgiving
(thanking God)
3.
Repentance
(recognizing and asking for forgiveness of YOUR sin)
4.
Requests:
-- First for others needs/desires
-- Second for your needs/desires
5.
Yielding
and Supplication (being obedient and listening to God)
I
don't have a nifty word to help you remember this but I know with
daily
prayer you will come to know how to talk with our Father. If prayer
is
new to you, then begin with the ACTS or PRAY forms and get comfortable
with
those. God loves any time you set aside for Him. Remember it is
a
priviledge to pray to God.
"Perhaps
prayer often needs to be followed by a little pause, that
we
may have time to open our hearts to that for which we have
prayed.
We often rush from prayer to prayer without waiting for
the
word within, which says, 'I have heard you, My child.'"
Quote
by Amy Carmichael
"It's
been said that faith may move mountains, but prayer moves God.
Amazing,
isn't it, that our prayers, whether grand and glorious or
feeble
and faint, can move the very heart of God who created
the
universe?"
