Our
Little Home School
All your
children shall be taught by the Lord,
And great
shall be the peace of your children.
Isaiah
54:13
Welcome!!
I invite you to come
in and see what we do here. I have and still do
enjoy teaching and
instructing my children. God has been
instrumental in making
this possible for us. I truly know He
designed this plan
for us and our children. Scripture reminds us:
God
"knows the plans He has for us. Plans to prosper
us
and not to harm us, plans to give us hope
and
a future."
Jeremiah 29: 11
He makes it possible
for me to stay home while still
providing for our
daily needs. He has wonderful
plans for each of
my children and home education
is part of His plan.
We are thankful for His love and
guidance. I have recently
read a book that doesn't
use the term "homeschooling"
instead they say "home
education" because
that's what we do. We educate our
children. We do not
school them. I found this very
enlightening to me
and decided that this is the right
term for what I do
here. So, you will see this term often
here at Our Little
Home School. I desire to share with you all
the blessings of home
education. So, please, check back often and
see what I find to
share with you. Be sure and refresh the page.
Are you interested in home education?
Here are some sites
to give you more information
about home education.
Please heed that we educate our
children with our
faith the focus. So, most, not all, of
these sites will be
Christian based.

Socialization
Socialization is always
the one thing parents asking about
home education seemed
the most concerned about. Don't worry
about it! The whole
idea is to carefully choose their social
interaction. Socialization
does need to be a part of their lives.
And the truth be told,
they get the majority of their
socialization from
family, the basic social unit in which children
learn to live with
others. Other family members, church,
the neighborhood kids,
and other outside activities are added
ways to encourage
your child in socializing. Keep in mind socialization
in today's world can
be negative, harmful, and destructive
if not decided upon
carefully. Group learning is not always
beneficial. Individual
ingenuity and motivation can be reduced
and self achievement
lowered to a common denominator.
As for "peer" groups?
A "peer" is one equal in excellence;
a companion; an associate
who shares common values and views.
Thus, the proper peer
for a young Christian as he/she is growing
in the Lord is another
Christian and other Christian young people.
Also, Christian adults
are beneficial to young growing Christians.
My kids do have non-Christians
peers but we monitor these relationships
very carefully.
Making sure we are addressing the worldly things
they ask about or
are confronted with. Proverbs 22:15 reminds us
that "Folly is bound
up in the heart of a child..." so we need
to be aware of what
socializing our children are doing. Some Christian
parents suggest that
putting their children in public school provides
an opportunity for
them to witness for Christ. Witnessing for Christ
is important; all
who are His are commanded to do so. However,
the purpose of school
is not to evangelize but to educate; to train
students to grow in
that mind which was in Christ Jesus.
Furthermore, placing
immature young Christians in harm's way
(negative environments
and ungodly pressures) may force them to
take stands which
even an adult Christian might find difficult. To
do that to a child
would be counter to Christ's teachings. (Matt. 18:6,7)
They need to learn
godly discernement which is even difficult for an
adult to learn.
All I'm saying here
is that child socialization is something very
important to the growth
of your child and should be carefully
chosen according to
God's will and Word.
I am in search of
links that talk more on the subject of socialization
and home education.
As soon as I find some I'll
put them up until
then pray and follow God's leading!!
Biblical Reasons For Home Education
Here are just a few
Bible verses to help you to explain to
family, friends, church
members, and even to state officials
Biblical reasons for
teaching your children at home.
1.
Children belong to God for they come from Him. They
are entrusted to parents
for care and training in
His word and service.
"Behold,
children are a heritage from the Lord;
the
fruit of the womb is His reward."
Psalm
127:3
Other
scripture:
Genesis
33:5, Psalm 113:9
Genesis
48:9, Deuteronomy 28:4
Psalm
24:1, Isaiah 8:18
2
Timothy 3:14-17
2.
We are instructed to teach them about God and His
ways. God has set
the home, not the school, as
the basic center of
learning. The church and the
school are but extensions
of the home.
"Fix
these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie
them
as symbols on your hands and bind them on
your
foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking
about
them when you sit at home and when you walk
along
the road, when you lie down and when you
get
up.
Write them on the door frames of your houses
and
on your gates..."

11:18-20

scripture:

Matthew
4:4,10, Matthew 6:33
Matthew
11:29, Proverbs 31:26-28
Joel
1:3, Isaiah 38:19
3.
We are instructed to LEARN NOT the ways of the
world. True knowledge
(wisdom) comes from God
through His word and
not from the world.
"Keep
my decrees and laws, for the man who
obeys
them will live by them. I am the Lord."
Leviticus
18:5

Colossians
2:8, 2 Timothy 2:15
Psalm

4.
Christians are not to accept the ungodly as peers;
parents must protect
their children from AND
prepare their children
for the pressures of
worldly, ungodly peers.
"Do
not be yoked together with unbelievers. For
what
do righteousness and wickedness have in
common?
Or what fellowship can light have
with
darkness?"

Home Education Curriculum & More
Here are home education
links that carry curriculum and
other educational
material needed for teaching. I also
include online activities
your child can do. My best
advice for choosing
what is best for your child/children is
trial and error and
word of mouth. I have tried books
that other moms have
done and found they aren't for my
children. Then, it
has been the opposite with other books.
If you are new to
home education, the first two years are
learning years. As
you get to know your child's learning style
then you get a better
idea of what works. These are links
to sites that I have
used or offer educational material.
They are alphabetical.
