Sadie's Mother's Day Room

Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her.
~Proverbs 31:28~

Mother's Day will be celebrated on May 13, 2007.

"All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother."
~Abraham Lincoln~ (1809-1865)

My Thoughts On Motherhood

I am the mother of five. My oldest child is a teenager
and my youngest is still learning to read. I have two in
Heaven that I know are enjoying the presence of the Lord.
When I was growing up, it was always my heart's desire to be a
mother. With all my aspirations, motherhood was dear
to my heart. My children are the breaths I take each
day. I have enjoyed each day with them and look
forward to the years to come. Mother's Day is a wonderful
time to sit back and reflect on your motherhood. We, as
mothers, have a great responsibility. We have been
chosen to guide and teach our children. We are God's
agents. He gave us our children and we are to be obedient
to His calling. His desire for our children is to give them
lives that continue to glorify Him. So, motherhood comes
with a challenging yet rewarding job. If we stay clear on
God's direction for us as mother's then our children
will reap the benefits of growing up in God's love.

She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
~Proverbs 31:26~

How Did Mother's Day Come To Be?

Julia Ward Howe made the first known suggestion for a Mother's Day
in the United States in 1872. She suggested that people observe a
Mother's Day on June 2 as a day dedicated to peace. For several years,
she held an annual Mother's Day meeting in Boston. Mary Towles Sasseen,
a Kentucky schoolteacher, started conducting Mother's Day celebrations
in 1887. Frank E. Hering of South Bend, Indiana, launched a campaign for
the observance of Mother's Day in 1904.

But it would be Anna M. Jarvis to make Mother's Day happen.
At the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1912, a delegate from Andrews Church
introduced a resolution recognizing Anna Jarvis as the founder of
Mother's Day. It suggested that the second Sunday in May be
observed as Mother's Day.

Mother's Day received national recognition on May 9, 1914. On
that day, President Woodrow Wilson signed a joint resolution of
Congress recommending that Congress and the executive departments
of the federal government observe Mother's Day. The next year,
President Wilson was authorized to proclaim Mother's Day an annual
national observance.

~Quotes about mothers~

"My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw.
All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in
life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I
received from her."
~George Washington~ (1732-1799)

"The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom."
~Henry Ward Beecher~ (1813-1887)

"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me.
They have clung to me all my life."
~Abraham Lincoln~ (1809-1865)

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and
sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity;
when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when
troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor
by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness,
and cause peace to return to our hearts."
~Washington Irving~ (1783-1859)

A MOTHER'S PRAYER

Lord, for my children I would pray
That they may seek Thee every day
Through life, with all its storms and stress
Its sorrows, grief and bitterness.

In disappointments fly to Thee
For comfort, strength and sympathy.
And never find a truer friend,
But love and serve Thee to the end.

That they may take Thee as their Guide,
To lead them all the way beside;
Their Counsellor when troubled o'er
The many problems at youth's door.

If overwhelmed by dark despair,
Oh teach them how through faith and prayer
To crush this subtle devil's snare
And rest within Thy loving care.

For them no dizzy heights of fame
I crave, nor great and worldly gain,
In humble service let them aim
To spread the honor of Thy name.

That in this dark world may they shine
Their lives reflect Love Divine
Their object now their pleasure then,
Obedience to Thy will. Amen.

The Power of The Praying Woman

The woman carries many resposibilities. She is daughter,
sister, mother, wife, and friend. All very different roles
yet all carry great responsibilities to others. Yes, she
is tending to and loving others within each role. As a daughter,
she learns life's lessons growing within her family. As a
sister she learns to get along with others. As a wife, she
is learning the true meaning of loving another person
unconditionally. As a friend, she is learning to be a good
listener and confidant. Finally, as a mother, she is
learning patience and self-sacrifice. All roles are rewarding
and demanding. Sometimes, it can feel impossible to do.
But one thing that can save the woman is prayer. Yes!
Deep conversations with our Lord. The power of the praying
woman can wield much. A woman is given these
roles because she can do them...but with God's strength
not her own. Every day there should be time alone with
God in prayer. It is in this time her strength is renewed
and she finds direction for each role. God speaks to her heart
and she finds comfort in His presence. I want to encourage
each woman who visits here to make daily appointments
with God. When you're scheduling doctors' and dentists'
appointments, schedule an appointment with God, too.

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great
and unsearchable things you do not know.
~Jeremiah 33:3~

He is able to do much more than we can ever ask
for or think of, by His power that works in us.
~Ephesians 3:20~

How To Make Mom Feel Special

Have you decided what to do for your Mom on Mother's Day?
Well, I want to offer you some suggestions. Here we go...

Bring her breakfast in bed.
(Don't forget her favorite book or newspaper)
Give her a day off from regular house chores.
Give her a day at the spa to be pampered.
Make her homemade cards and a special treat.
Husbands..how about giving mom a foot massage?
Share with her how important she is to you.
Tell her sweet somethings all week leading up to Mother's Day.
"You're beautiful."
"Thank you for all you do."
"I'm glad you're my mom"
Pay her a visit if you live far from her.
(This is something you will need to plan if
she lives out of your state.)
Put on a play called "A Day In The Life Of My Mom".
(This will be a special treat for her and
probably quite hilarious.)
Make her favorite dinner with candlelight.
Sing her a song. This could be a family thing.
Treat her to dinner out at her favorite restaurant.
Go for ice cream! Or Make ice cream sundaes!

Whatever you do...keep Mom in mind because you are
doing it for her. Have a great Mother's Day!
