Sadie's
Autumn

Autumn
is my FAVORITE time of year! I just love the feeling
you
get when this time rolls around. The weather is cooler,
rain
is more often than not, baking is done more than grilling,
and
leaves change from green to yellows, oranges, and browns.
It
truly is a spectacular time to enjoy. Come away with me to
see
all this season holds for you.

First
day of autumn
is September 22, 2008.

Every
good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from
the
Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change
like
shifting shadows.
~James
1:17~

Autumn
Season
Autumn
is the season between summer and winter. The Northern
Hemisphere,
the northern half of the earth, has autumn weather during
late
September, October, and November. Autumn begins on
September
22 or 23, the day of the autumnal equinox, when the pole starts
to
slant away from the sun. At both equinoxes, the sun appears
directly
above
the equator. Places on Earth have approximately 12 hours of
daylight
and 12 hours of darkness.

Many
people call this season fall because it is the period of falling
leaves.
Autumn
is also harvest time for many crops. In North America, early
autumn
days are generally warm and nights are cool. As winter approaches,
the
air becomes chillier and frost often occurs at night. In much of North
America,
the end of autumn is marked by the freezing of lakes and streams,
southern
migration of birds, and prewinter snowstorms.
Autumn—especially
September—is the season when most hurricanes occur.
Hurricanes
cause great damage along the coasts of the Gulf of Mexico and
the
western North Atlantic Ocean.

Apples
Remind Me of
Autumn

What
do you know about apples? All I know is that apples
make
me think of autumn. And I do love to eat apples or
cook
with apples. I thought it would be fun to learn a little
more
about this wonderful fruit.

Apple
is one of the most important fruits that grow on trees. It is
also
one of the most popular of all fruits. There are hundreds of varieties
of
apples. Their color ranges from various shades of red to green and
yellow,
and
their
flavor varies from tart to sweet. Apple trees belong to the rose
family.
Their beautiful white flowers open in spring and look like tiny roses.
Apple
growers throughout the world produce about 55 million tons
(50
million metric tons) of the fruit annually. China leads the world
in
apple
production, followed by the United States. Over half the apples
grown
are eaten fresh. Apples also are baked into pies and many other
dishes.
Apples
are used in making apple butter, apple juice, applesauce, and jelly
and
wine.
Apple juice may be made into vinegar. Most apple products are canned
or
bottled,
and others are dried or frozen. Apples consist of about
85
percent water. They contain vitamins A and C, potassium, pectin, and
fiber.
Although
there are hundreds of kinds of apples, only a few varieties
account
for most of the apples grown commercially and in home gardens.
For
example, three varieties of apples—Delicious, Golden Delicious,
and
Granny
Smith—make up about two-thirds of the apples produced in the
United
States. Two other varieties—McIntosh and Rome Beauty—also rank
among
the leading apples grown in the United States.
Through
the ages, apples have appeared in legends, poems, and religious
books.
In the Swiss legend of William Tell, a tyrant arrests an archer
but
promises to free him if he shoots an apple off his son's head.
Tell
does
so and later kills the tyrant with another arrow. Many people
believe
an
apple was the fruit that, according to the Bible, Adam and Eve ate
in
the Garden of Eden.

In
the bible, the phrase "apple of Thine eye" is a figurative
expression
for something very valuable. It is found in scripture
as
a request of God's children. We desire to be the apple of
His
eye. Deuteronomy 32:10 shares how God takes care of those
who
are the apple of His eye. As His children, let us make this
a
daily prayer and live that way. After all, we are the apple of
His
eye. And if you do not have a personal
relationship with
our
Heavenly Father, make that commitment NOW.

Keep
me as the apple of your eye;
hide
me in the shadow of your wings.
~Psalm
17:8~
Keep
my commands and you will live;
guard
my teachings as the apple of your eye.
~Proverbs
7:2~

Daily
Inspiration
by
Helen
Steiner Rice
(From
"Daily Reflections" 1990)

Special
poems for special seasons
are
meaningful indeed,
But
daily inspiration
is
still man's greatest need.
For
day by day all through the year,
not
just on holidays,
Man
should glorify the Lord
in
deeds and words of praise.
And
when the heart is heavy
and
everything goes wrong,
May
these daily words for daily needs
be
like a cheery song
Assuring
you He loves you
and
that you never walk alone
For
in God's all-wise wisdom
your
every need is known!

Did
you get your dose of "daily words" today?
NOTE: This poem is only
for your reading pleasure. I share
it only to

Pumpkins!
Pumpkins!
Pumpkins!

I
just love pumpkins! And when autumn rolls around, I
decorate
my home with all kinds of pumpkins. They can be
life-like
or whimsy or real. I just love the look my home
gets
with pumpkins displayed. It really puts the season
of
fall into action and gives the home a wonderful feel.
Plus,
they can be used to share the gospel with others.
Since
I know there is much to share about pumpkins, I
decided
to create a place just to learn more about them
